Royal Oak opens its doors to the world

A tiny back-street West Bromwich pub  is hoping to get world-wide fame — all thanks to the Internet. The Royal Oak pub in Newton Street has gone on-line and has its own website.

Licensee Dave Maydew said it was an idea of the regulars. “Quite a few of them have their own computers and it was something that came out of a general conversation we all had a few weeks ago.

It has taken a fair bit of setting up but we have now drawn up a full history of the pub dating back to when it was built in 1820. We have even got details of some of the regulars and loads of information on a quiz page we have set up.” Even though the website was only set-up recently it has already had a few calls from people in America. “We have checked around and as far as we can tell we are the only pub in the area with its own website”,  added Mr Maydew.
